Required Materials
As we progress through the course, expect the required materials to be added here. Students will often have to create their own documents for use in the application process and for inclusion in their portfolio.
Some important information...
Organization is an integral part of your journey to applying for scholarships. The more organized you are, the better off your journey will go. Therefore...
...all students must have a Pathway to Scholarships folder created in the "My Documents" file of their school account.
...all Pathway to Scholarship documents are to be saved using the following format:
First Name.Last Name_A Complete Naming of the File. For example Ima.Goodstudent_LCEF Qualifying Scholarships
...I encourage you to type up all responses to scholarship applications in a savable Word document so you have record of your writing. It is usually an easier way to edit.
Letter of Recommendation Organizer - DUE Tuesday, 12/10
Students are required to MAKE a digital letter of recommendation organizer (see image above). This document should include a table with:
When you believe you are finished, show for teacher approval BEFORE PRINTING. You will then begin filling out a hard copy of this document.
ONCE PRINTED AND FILLED OUT...
*Look back over your list. Do you have a good variety of people? For example, have you only included teachers or have you thought about current or former employers, coaches, youth group leaders, etc.?
*Go back over your list and make sure it is balanced; make changes if needed. Place this document in the Letters of Recommendation portion of your Pathway to Scholarships portfolio and continually refer to it as you are applying for scholarships, as nearly all of them will require letters of recommendation.
- a column for your reference's full name
- a column for their relationship to you, the student
- a column with space for a rationale about why you will ask this person
- a column for date asked and accepted
- a column for when you received the letter
- a column for thank you note (written and date, sent and date)

Letter of Recommendation Cheat Sheet - DUE Wednesday, 12/11
Using the information from the student presentation on letters of recommendation, design a cheat sheet about yourself that will be helpful to the individuals you are asking for letters.
Consider formatting it so that information is broken down by category (see example to the right). When you believe you are finished, show for teacher approval BEFORE PRINTING. If you expect to provide this information to someone and want them to take your letter of recommendation request seriously, this document should be thorough, show concern and seriousness, and be error-free! |
Letter of Recommendation Request Form - DUE Friday, 12/13
AFTER SETTING UP AN APPOINTMENT/TIME TO MAKE THE LETTER REQUEST, students should attach this form to the FRONT of their cheat sheet and be prepared to hand this to their letter writer. Students should double-check this document is filled out accurately and given to the correct individual. This will look more professionally prepared, explain the letter, and provide them with your contact information in case issues arise as they are writing. It will also allow them to know a deadline. Sign it at the end, in pen!
